With our recent KEPServerEX version 6.5 release, PTC significantly improved customers’ ability to secure their industrial control systems against today’s cybersecurity threats. And while our security enhancements and tools are important, so are the continuous improvements we made to 32 other server components, drivers and advanced plug-ins.
You spoke; we listened—and today, we’ll tour the updates that ease customer pain points and provide more industrial data access.
Automatic Tag Generation (ATG) for the MQTT Client Driver
Users familiar with Automatic Tag Generation (ATG) appreciate how fast and easy it makes deploying new devices. Available to select drivers, the feature automatically builds a list of tags within KEPServerEX that correspond to device-specific data. Eliminating manual tag creation significantly simplifies the tag creation process for large data sets—and provides scalability for future project expansion.
With KEPServerEX version 6.5, ATG is now supported in the MQTT Client driver—enabling sensor or device data to be effortlessly aggregated into virtually any automation and controls system. With ATG for the MQTT Client driver, users simply need to subscribe to an MQTT topic and ingest data for a set amount of time—it will automatically create tags based on the data sent to that topic.
See how you can easily perform ATG in the MQTT Client driver in our two-and-a-half minute video featuring Product Manager Mike Leathem.
New Store and Forward Capabilities for the ThingWorx Native Interface
In version 6.5, ThingWorx® Industrial IoT Platform users gain more insight and control over how data collected by KEPServerEX is forwarded to ThingWorx after the two solutions are reconnected. With the addition of new system tags, they can also better monitor operational health.
These new capabilities enable controls engineers, manufacturing IT and application developers to confidently deploy KEPServerEX at remote sites, on remote assets and in unstable network locations while ensuring data fidelity.
Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal Support
By utilizing the TIA Portal Exporter Utility, users can easily ingest tags from TIA Portal projects and export a file for upload to the Siemens TCP/IP Ethernet driver—providing immediate access to data from Siemens devices.
In KEPServerEX version 6.5, the TIA Portal Exporter Utility has been updated for compatibility with TIA Portal V13, V14, V14 SP1 and V15. It also now enables users to:
- select a specific controller within the TIA Portal project
- display and export tags from all tag tables, data blocks and function blocks
- select all or multi-select tags for a KEPServerEX project
- …and more.
